History

Zandbergen World’s Finest Meat is a family business started 35 years ago by the brothers Cor and Ton Zandbergen. Their father owned a butcher’s shop on the Morsweg in Leiden and Cor and Ton followed in their father’s footsteps. Eventually Ton took over his father’s business and Cor opened a butcher’s shop in Beverwijk. Within a few years, both stores increased their trade and they started importing from South America. The brothers soon outgrew their shops so in 1977, they moved into one of the buildings in De Grote Polder industrial estate in Zoeterwoude. They outgrew these premises, too, and so moved to a larger building in the same industrial estate, which is where they are still based today. This is where the heart is.

Over the past 35 years the company has grown into an organization with around 120 employees. We used to have over 7500 M/T of storage capacity, but in early 2008 we opened a new cold-storage warehouse that boosted our total storage capacity to 32.500 M/T. We’re also proud of the fact that the next generation in our family is now involved in the family business.
